About the Role

PADCOM Design & Construction Management Services is seeking an Assistant Safety Manager II to support safety oversight across LAWA capital construction projects.

This role works closely with contractors, inspection teams, and project management staff to ensure compliance with safety requirements, implementation of effective safety programs, and adherence to contract specifications. The position plays a critical role in promoting a proactive safety culture across active construction environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with contractor safety teams, inspection staff, and project management teams to ensure effective safety program implementation.
• Perform regular field walks of assigned projects to monitor safety compliance and identify risks.
• Conduct Task Hazard Analysis audits and document safety observations.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to address safety concerns and verify corrective actions.
• Review contractor safety plans and verify compliance through field observations.
• Support verification of contractor documentation including safety meetings, training records, incident reports, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
• Attend project progress meetings and safety committee meetings to monitor safety performance.
• Participate in Construction Safety Advisory Council meetings and program-wide safety initiatives.
• Prepare clear and detailed safety reports and documentation.
• Support delivery of safety training programs and presentations.
• Promote proactive, behavior-based safety practices across projects.
• Coordinate with management to enhance safety program visibility and effectiveness.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent

Certifications (Required)

• Active Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) certification such as Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or higher

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in vertical, tunnel, or heavy civil construction
• Experience working in active construction environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Supervisory experience overseeing safety personnel
• Bilingual communication skills
• Experience delivering safety training programs
• Familiarity with LAWA safety standards and procedures

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong understanding of construction safety practices and regulations
• Knowledge of Cal OSHA requirements and compliance standards
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prepare detailed safety reports with supporting documentation
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and project management systems (e.g., PMWeb)

Work Conditions & Requirements

• Onsite position at LAX (not remote)
• Must pass federal background check and obtain LAWA badge
• Must be able to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and extended hours
• May require walking long distances across project sites daily
• Must obtain Cal OSHA instructor certification within 6 months of hire
• May be required to deliver CPR/First Aid training
• Must have access to a vehicle capable of accessing airport operational areas
