About the Role

PADCOM Design & Construction Management Services is seeking a Project Manager II – FS51 Assistant Project Manager to support the LAX Replacement Fire Station 51 project.

This role assists the Project Manager in managing scope, schedule, budget, and GMP development for a progressive design-build project. The position plays a key role in coordinating with stakeholders, supporting design and construction activities, and ensuring successful project delivery within an active airport environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience in progressive design-build delivery and the ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, designers, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager in managing project scope, cost, schedule, and operational interfaces.
  • Support GMP development and trade procurement processes.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders including LAWA, LAFD, designers, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in planning, directing, and managing all technical, administrative, and fiscal aspects of the project.
  • Support development of budgets, schedules, and execution strategies.
  • Identify and evaluate solutions to design, operational, and constructability challenges.
  • Conduct field investigations to support design and construction decisions.
  • Support oversight of design processes including RFIs, submittals, design reviews, and compliance.
  • Coordinate permitting processes and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor construction activities to identify and mitigate risks and inefficiencies.
  • Ensure adherence to contract requirements, plans, specifications, and approved changes.
  • Coordinate with project teams to plan construction activities and establish milestones.
  • Review change orders for contractual compliance and fair value.
  • Assist in preparing progress reports and risk reports for leadership.
  • Support QA/QC processes and ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Review contractor payment applications and verify completed work.
  • Participate in project meetings and stakeholder coordination.
  • Support project closeout and documentation processes.
  • Promote safety standards and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, or related technical field

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in construction or project management
  • Experience on projects exceeding $40 million in value
  • Experience working in active or operational environments
  • Experience with Design-Build delivery, preferably Progressive Design-Build
  • Proven ability to perform in a management capacity

Preferred Qualifications

  • DBIA certification strongly preferred
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, PE, LEED, AICP, or AAAE
  • Experience on aviation or large infrastructure projects

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of design-build and progressive design-build delivery methods
  • Knowledge of full project lifecycle from design through construction and closeout
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder coordination skills
  • Ability to manage scope, schedule, and budget constraints
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and project management tools

Work Conditions & Requirements

  • Onsite position at LAX (not remote)
  • Full-time Monday–Friday schedule
  • May require extended hours or varied shifts based on project needs
  • Consultant must provide company laptop and cell phone
  • LAWA will provide desktop or laptop for system access
  • Transportation to and from project site is employee responsibility
