About the Role
PADCOM Design & Construction Management Services is seeking a Mechanical Inspector to support LAWA construction inspection services across multiple projects within the airport Capital Improvement Program.
The Mechanical Inspector performs field inspections to verify mechanical and plumbing installations meet plans, specifications, codes, and safety standards in an active airport environment.
Key Responsibilities

Inspect airport construction and utility projects for compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contracts.

Perform daily inspections of mechanical and plumbing systems in terminal and building construction projects.

Review and interpret construction documents including drawings, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.

Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities and identified deficiencies.

Verify contractor compliance with local, national, and LAWA mechanical and plumbing codes.

Track field changes, quantities, and time-and-material work.

Assist with validation of contractor payment requests based on schedule of values.

Support special inspections and testing coordination with engineers and third-party agencies.
Systems Inspected

Domestic water and sewage systems
-
Venting, gas piping, and fire sprinklers

HVAC systems including air handlers, chillers, boilers, and ductwork

Smoke control and mechanical ventilation systems
-
Fire life safety integration including smoke dampers and suppression systems
-
Lockout/tagout and shutdown procedures
-
Underground utilities
-
Commissioning and balancing reports
Minimum Qualifications
Education
-
High school diploma or equivalent
Certifications (Required)
-
Current ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification
-
Cal-OSHA 30-hour training within the last 4 years
-
Fall protection and harness training
Experience
-
Minimum 3 years of mechanical inspection experience for building construction
-
Knowledge of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration installations
Preferred Qualifications
-
ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification
-
NFPA 70E training within the last 3 years
-
Journeyman or master-level plumbing experience
-
Experience inspecting large commercial or public facilities
-
Confined space entry training
-
Knowledge of CBC and CMC code requirements
Skills & Knowledge

Ability to identify construction deficiencies and ensure compliance with codes

Strong coordination with contractors, engineers, and agencies
-
Excellent communication and time management skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PMWeb, Bluebeam, and Adobe
Work Conditions & Requirements

Onsite position at LAX

Must obtain LAWA SIDA badge prior to start

Must be able to work day, swing, or night shifts
-
May require overtime, weekends, and modified schedules based on construction activities
