About the Role

PADCOM Design & Construction Management Services is seeking experienced Project Cost Estimators to support the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Facilities Services Division. This role is responsible for preparing independent construction cost estimates, supporting negotiations, and reviewing contractor proposals for school facility projects managed by Maintenance & Operations.

The position plays a critical role in cost control, change order evaluation, and ensuring fair and accurate pricing throughout the life of construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare preliminary and final independent detailed cost estimates for JOC and formal construction contracts.

  • Establish negotiating positions in support of change order procedures.

  • Provide cost estimating support during price negotiations.

  • Prepare claim analyses and cost estimates.

  • Develop detailed construction cost estimates based on drawings, specifications, sketches, and square footage using standard estimating tools and data.

  • Review contractor claims and proposals for accuracy, accountability, and merit.

  • Develop scopes of work based on RFI/RFC responses and independently estimate associated costs.

  • Compare independent cost estimates with contractor proposals to quickly identify discrepancies.

  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of full-time professional experience in construction cost estimating for facilities or school building projects.

  • Strong knowledge of current local construction labor and material costs.

  • Extensive experience developing and pricing scopes of work for change orders.

  • Proven ability to independently evaluate contractor proposals and cost claims.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills related to construction cost estimating.

  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, RFIs, and RFCs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with project teams.

  • Detail-oriented with strong judgment and problem-solving abilities.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary Range: Competitive, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

  • Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday; additional hours may be required based on project needs.
